I knew these gentlemen were connected, but just now come across a source that ties them together nicely and decided to share here. I first mentioned Dr. Eben Hillyer here a couple of years ago. And less than two months have passed since I mentioned Dr. Shaler Granby Hillyer in this space . Dr. Eben Hillyer, buried in Myrtle Hill Cemetery at Rome, Floyd County, Georgia was the nephew of Dr. Shaler Granby Hillyer buried at Forsyth Cemetery in Monroe County, Georgia. Per his gravestone in Forsyth Cemetery at Monroe County, Georgia, Rev. Shaler Granby Hillyer, D.D. was ordained into the Baptist ministry in 1835. Standing in Myrtle Hill Cemetery at Rome, Georgia is an obelisk placed for Dr. Eben Hillyer, his wife Georgia E. (Cooley) Hillyer, and their daughter Ethel Hillyer Harris Brown. I'd like to share the Latin phrase that is part of the epitaph for Eben. "Nunc requievit in Patris domo" translates to English as "Now rests in his Father's house." (If you're like me, and don't know Roman Numerals past X=10, Eben was born 12th August 1832, and died 20th December 1910.)
